Membership

At Idlewild, our desire is to have a church body full of committed, devoted members. Attracting church attendees is one thing, but having committed, devoted members helps make a healthy church. If you are looking for a church to call your own and are willing to minister to others while being ministered to, join us! At the end of each worship service, during the ‘invitation’, you can walk forward and tell the pastors in the aisles that you want to join the church and they will direct you from there.

Complete the Starting Point class

Starting Point Membership Class:

Church membership is not merely a name on a roll—it is a serious commitment to a specific body of believers. It involves privileges and mutual responsibility. For example, Members are called to submit to their leaders, love one another, and exhort each other in truth. And Leaders are called to shepherd the flock, care for their souls, and give an account to Christ for those under their care.

Starting Point is a two-week class designed to prepare you for membership at Idlewild. The class typically takes place on the first two Sundays of each month, and both sessions are required and should be attended in order.

By the end of Starting Point, you’ll have a clear understanding of what it means to be a member at Idlewild and how to take your next steps—growing in your walk with Jesus and building meaningful relationships within our church family.

Please visit the Next Steps Room after any of the services to speak to someone about this exciting next step in your walk with the Lord.

Children’s Membership

This new believers class provides basic spiritual training for children who have made a profession of faith and is a prerequisite for church membership. During this two week class, children walk through what it means to be a follower of Christ and member of the church. Sessions begin the first two Sundays of the month at 8:45 a.m., in room A206 for K-5th graders. Classes begin September 4 and online registration is required.

Baptism

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’s Supper.

At Idlewild, baptism is regularly celebrated in worship gatherings. Whether you are new to the faith or a longtime believer who hasn’t been baptized yet, everyone is encouraged to take this important step of obedience.
