Purity Is Part of Healing
By: Catherine Corpus
When we hear the word “purity,” many of us feel pressured. Rules. Expectations. Maybe even failure.
But what if purity is not about perfection… but about sexual integrity and drawing close to God?
Purity is not something we achieve on our own. It is something that grows in us as God restores our hearts. It is not about trying hard; it is about becoming new, the new creation He imputes with His righteousness when we trust Him as Savior and when we are filled with His Spirit.
The Bible says, “For this is the will of God, your sanctification” (1 Thessalonians 4:3). In other words, God desires to make us whole, set apart, and renewed—not to burden us, but to bless us.
For many women, the journey has been complicated. Some carry wounds from abuse. Others carry patterns of sin that they wish could change. Many carry shame, feeling like purity is something they have already lost.
But here is the truth: purity is not something you lose forever—it is something God provides and restores.
Through Jesus, we are not labeled by our past. We have been made new. He does not look at you and see failure, He sees a daughter He is restoring with love and patience.
As healing begins in your heart, your thoughts begin to change. Your desires begin to shift. Your choices begin to reflect a new identity, not out of fear, but out of freedom.
Purity becomes less about rules and more about relationships. It becomes a response to God’s love, not a requirement to earn it.
This is a process. It takes time. It takes grace. And it takes walking closely with the Lord. It can also take accountability with our church family.
Whether you are young and learning what purity means, or older and longing to persevere in purity or be restored, sexual integrity is for you.
Lord, thank You that You make all things new. Help me see purity not as pressure, but as a gift of healing. Restore my heart, renew my mind, and lead me in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, amen.
